A Scots railway station has been closed off amid an ongoing 'police incident'.

Officers swooped on Hamilton Station this morning and trains are unable to stop there.

The exact nature of the incident is unclear at this time.

Tweets send by Scotrail earlier this morning have advised travellers to use Hamilton West station as an alternative due to the ongoing 'police incident'.

They read: "Due to an ongoing Police incident at Hamilton Central services are unable to stop at this station. We're working closely with emergency services at this time and will keep you updated. Please use Hamilton West station as an alternative."

A second tweet read: "Update: Services continue to bypass Hamilton Central until further notice, passengers are advised to travel to and from Hamilton West as an alternative. Hamilton Central remains closed at this time."

The British Transport Police has been contacted for comment on the ongoing incident.
