Police race to ‘ongoing incident’ as Scots railway closed after reports of ‘trespassers’ on the tracks in East Lothian

Emergency services have been called to an ‘ongoing incident’ on a busy railway line in East Lothian.

Police were called to the scene between Musselburgh and Wallyford at around 10pm on Tuesday after the alarm was raised.

Train services in the area have been cancelled and delayed with travellers being warned to expect disruption by ScotRail.

ScotRail updated travellers on Twitter (Twitter)

The railway operator tweeted: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident in the Musselburgh area.

“The line between Musselburgh and Wallyford is closed, and as advised, train services between Edinburgh and North Berwick will be delayed or revised.”

A National Rail alert added: “Trespassers on the railway between North Berwick/Dunbar and Edinburgh has resulted in all lines being blocked.

“As a result of this, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

The line reopened at around 10.40pm.
