Police race to Loudoun Academy after rumour spreads of pupil with 'offensive weapon'

Police raced to an Ayrshire secondary school this morning after reports were made of a pupil brandishing an offensive weapon.

Officers attended to Loudoun Academy in Galston shortly after 11am after the rumour emerged.

But police have said that no criminality was established at the scene.

Council bosses have also said that the rumour that was spread was "entirely inaccurate."

Loudoun Academy parent council issued to a message to parents to say that nobody was "stabbed or threatened with a knife."

Their Facebook page said: "We have been in touch with Mr Robertson, who said that there was an incident at school today which involved getting the police.

"Please be aware that NOBODY was stabbed or threatened with a knife.

"The situation was resolved swiftly and safely. The school is functioning as normal. No further comments will be made."

An East Ayrshire Council spokeswoman added: “A rumour involving a pupil running around with an offensive weapon at Loudoun Academy has spread this morning, but is entirely inaccurate.

"There was no weapon involved and the situation was promptly dealt with by staff. Police attended the school only as a precautionary measure.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police were called to Loudoun Academy at 11.18am this morning.

"There was no criminality established."
