Police race to Johnstone street amidst major incident

Police are investigating a major incident in Johnstone town centre.

An extensive cordon has been placed along MacDowall Street in the town, with dozens of officers on the street.

A forensics tent has been set up in the front garden next to one of the tenements on the street, and officers wearing protective clothing have also been seen combing the area.

Businesses in MacDowall Street have been unable to open while the police cordon is in place.

It's understood police were called to the incident last night with the cordon in place soon after.

Officers from Police Scotland's Major Investigations Team have been on site.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
