Police race to Glenochil prison after 'warden stabbed in car park'

Police raced to a Scots jail this morning amidst reports a prisoner officer was stabbed in the leg as he walked into work.

Officers raced to HMP Glenochill, near Tullibody in Clackmannanshire, at around 7.15am on Friday morning.

Locals reported seeing emergency services racing to the scene.

One said: "Cops everywhere this morning on the way into work. Has someone broken free from Glenochil?"

Another added: "Just hearing prison officer was stabbed walking to work, hopefully not the case though."

A third local said: "Two areas cordoned off. One at prison side and other up a track on opposite side. Lots of police."

A source told the Daily Record: "A prison officer was stabbed in the car park of Glenochill this morning. There's a crime scene cordon up now."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Record: "At around 7.15am on Friday, August 14, police were called to a report of a man having been assaulted outside Glenochil Prison.

"Shortly afterwards a 36-year-old man was traced by local officers and arrested in connection with the incident.

"A 51-year-old man was taken to Stirling Community Hospital for treatment for a serious leg injury.  "Enquiries are ongoing."

The Scottish Prison Service declined to comment.
