Police race to Glasgow rail track as reckless kids take dangerous route to get to school during floods

Police have raced to a Glasgow railway after reckless kids used the tracks in a bid to avoid flooding.

The pupils, mainly from John Paul Academy, Glasgow, were on the tracks of Summerston train station on their way to school.

The teens trespassed onto the line at around 8.30am.

It led to ScotRail and the British Transport Police issuing statements warning against taking shortcuts in a bid to avoid flooding in the local area.

ScotRail said in a tweet: "We're aware of a number of people (including children) using the railway as shortcut to avoid flooding in the Summerston area.

"This is extremely dangerous as well as illegal.

"The police are on site and are working with our staff to monitor the area in person and via CCTV."

A British Transport Police spokesperson added: "Officers received a report of youths trespassing close to Summerston station at 8.30am this morning.

"Trespassing on the railway is extremely dangerous and every year we see hundreds of people taking risks on and around the tracks every year, resulting in tragic consequences or life-changing injuries.

"If you witness someone trespassing, please text us on 61016 or call 999 in an emergency."
