Police race to Fife street after protest over 'peadophile' claims breaks out

Police have swarmed a Scots street amid a protest over claims an alleged peadophile is living nearby.

Locals gathered on Paige Street in Lochgelly, Fife, this evening and were heard chanting slogans.

A local source said that cops arrived on the scene around 7pm with pictures showing two vans and a masked officer.

It is understood that the protesters had gathered amid claims an alleged child sex offender was living in the area.

A live video was also circulating on social media showing people gathered on the street.

Police have confirmed they were made aware of the incident at around 7pm and are currently in attendance.

A spokeswoman added that officers were 'engaging' with the crowd.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Around 7pm tonight, Thursday, 10 September, 2020, police were made aware of a crowd that had gathered outside an address in Page Streetm Lochgelly, in Fife. 

"Officers are in attendance and are engaging with the crowd."
