Police race Rutherglen woman to Edinburgh flight after lost passport drama

A woman was driven to the airport by police in the nick of time after she was reunited with her lost passport thanks to a public appeal for help.

Disaster struck when Joanne Shields' document went missing just 24 hours before she was due to fly out to Croatia today.

The 37-year-old misplaced it while in Glasgow city centre getting her money changed for her trip.

But after our sister title Glasgow Live stepped in and shared her story online, the public rallied round to help track it down.

Officers who had seen the story then found the passport on London Road and delivered it to her home in Burnside, Rutherglen in Lanarkshire.

The kind-hearted cops then raced Joanne across the country to Edinburgh airport in time for her flight.

Joanne said: "I am one lucky girl.

"The police found my passport because of Glasgow Live's post and they came to my house with it before taking me to the airport.

"I can't thank them enough, also huge thanks to all you amazing folk for sharing my post and sending me positive vibes.

"I am definitely going to Croatia now."
