Neymar has been questioned by police in Rio de Janeiro over an alleged cybercrime linked to a woman’s rape claim against the football superstar.

The Brazilian striker, 27, arrived at the police HQ last night using crutches and a wheelchair because of an injured right ankle.

He was questioned for two hours. He had received a subpoena about his posting images and messages from his accuser, model Najila Trindade, 26, on social media without her authorisation. She has gone public with her accusations on Brazilian TV.

The Paris Saint-Germain star denies that he raped her in a Paris hotel room last month, accusing her of trying to extort him. He posted a WhatsApp exchange between them to try to prove his innocence.

As he left the police station just after 9pm local time, Neymar said: “I only want to thank the support and messages that everybody sent.” He is expected to speak to authorities about the rape claim, which is being investigated separately in Sao Paulo.

Ms Trindade’s lawyer, Danilo Garcia de Andrade, said the model had suffered “threats”.
