Police quack case of missing ducklings in storm drain

One tiny duckling crossing a road alone has led police to eight others stuck in a storm drain, sparking a rescue mission for the stranded feathered family.

Eagle-eyed police officers in Queensland saved the ducklings in distress from harm while conducting routine patrols near an inner-city busway on Tuesday.

Constables Dalton Philippa and Mason Smith spotted a single baby duck on the road at Spring Hill before their investigations led them to the noise of more chirping coming from a drain.

A rescue mission was swiftly launched, with an officer leaning deep into the drain to retrieve the stranded victims duckling by duckling, before they were placed into a Woolworths cold bag.

The ducklings complied without any feathers ruffled, with the nine ducklings taken to the RSPCA to recover.

"Investigations into the whereabouts of mother duck are ongoing," police said.
