Police pull suspects out of burning car in Knowle - then arrest them

Three people have been arrested after a car was stolen and crashed in Knowle this morning.

Police initially received reports of a man being assaulted in the Ilminster Avenue area of Knowle just after 9am today (Sat 7 March).

Officers arrived at the scene and found a car which suddenly drove off and failed to stop for them.

A short time later, the car was then involved in a crash near Beaconsfield Road, which resulted in the vehicle toppling over and catching fire with the three people still inside.

One of the people got out unaided but officers were forced to pull the two others out of the car to safety.

Crews from South Western Ambulance Service assessed the three casualties at the scene for minor injuries but none of them needed to be taken to hospital.

All three were then arrested by Avon and Somerset Police on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police. They are all now in police custody.

Officers have been unable to locate the victim of the assault that happened on Ilminster Avenue.

Police enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing and they have urged anyone in the area with concerns to speak to their local neighbourhood team.

If you have any information which could help police you can call them on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5220055370.
