Police pull over 25 cabs in Edinburgh city centre for vehicle inspections

Police have pulled over dozens of taxis and private hire vehicles in Edinburgh city centre.

Road policing officers were carrying out inspections to ensure the vehicles were up to standard.

One driver was issued with a prohibition notice after a car was found to be badly rusted. Others were ticketed for having tyres with inadequate tread.

Police Scotland's road policing unit tweeted: "The National Motorcycle Unit carried out taxi & Private hire check in Edinburgh city centre.

"25 vehicles inspected & faults including light defects & defective tyres dealt with by way of vehicle defect rectification notices & a red label prohibition issued for rust on sills/arches."

In December, police pulled over more than 50 taxis and private hire cars during a series of inspections in Leith.

The aim is to ensure people are kept safe while using taxis and such vehicles when out and about.
