Police pull man's body from the Rochdale Canal

The body of a man has been pulled from the Rochdale Canal.

The discovery was made by police on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a stretch of water near to Deeplish Road in Rochdale at around 4.30pm.

GMP have since confirmed the body is that of a man in his 50s.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Police are preparing a file to pass to the coroner.

A statement released by GMP said: "Police were called at around 4.30pm on Wednesday 7 August 2019, to reports that a body had been found in water near to Deeplish Road in Rochdale.

"Officers attended and sadly found the body of a man believed to be in his 50s.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and a file will be passed to the coroner."
