Police provide update on 'unexploded bomb' found near train tracks

POLICE have provided an update on the 'unexploded bomb' found earlier today.

Network Rail alerted service users that the Neilston to Muirend line was closed due to the discovery of the device at a nearby building site.

Cops locked down an area of Springfield Road in Barrhead for around eight hours to await the arrival of the bomb disposal team.

Shortly after 6pm, ScotRail confirmed that the train line had reopened and the area was clear.

The force confirmed that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit had attended and removed the item.

No further police action was taken.
