Police probing 'unexplained death' in Sunderland no longer treating it as suspicious

Police have confirmed the death of a 45-year-old man in Sunderland is not being treated as suspicious.

The body of the man was discovered in a property on Lumley Street, Millfield in Sunderland on Friday, March 28.

Officers were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene and his death was previously being treated as "unexplained".

Now detectives investigating the unexplained death have confirmed that they do not believe there were any suspicious circumstances.

Emergency services and forensics were seen entering the property after the death was confirmed with one neighbour claiming the house had only been occupied for weeks.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Police investigating the death of a 45-year-old man at an address on Lumley Street, Sunderland, on February 28 do not believe there were any suspicious circumstances.

"A report has now been prepared for the coroner.”
