Police probing string of vandalised cars in Scots town after several windows smashed

Police have launched a probe after a string of cars were vandalised in South Ayrshire last night.

Thugs targeted several cars in and around Ayr including one vehicle belonging to a new driver who had just passed their test.

At Blackfriars Court, near Christina's bar, the driver's window of a purple Peugeot 107 with passed plates was smashed at around 6.50pm.

Just under an hour-and-a-half later the driver's window of a white car was smashed around a mile away in Hawkhill Avenue.

It's also believed another car was targeted in nearby Wallacetoun North, known locally as White City.

It has not been confirmed if the incidents are linked but police told the Record they are 'keeping an open mind' on the matter.

The husband of the woman whose car was smashed on Hawkhill Avenue said: "Some young boys smashed my wife's car in Ayr.

"I believe there was quite a few cars done last night.

"I've heard that at least three cars have been done around the area.

"A neighbour alerted me. He heard the window smashing but was too late to see who it was.

"Are kids getting a bit bored now?"

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.50pm on Sunday, 21 January, we received a report of vandalism to a vehicle on Blackfriars Court in Ayr.

“A couple of hours later, around 8.15pm on Sunday, 21 January, we received a subsequent report of vandalism to a vehicle on Hawkhill Avenue in Ayr.

“Enquires into both incidents are ongoing, officers are keeping an open mind as to whether or not they may be linked.”
