Police probing report of West Belfast attack after man stopped to help woman

Police are investigating a report that a man was attacked by two men after stopping to help a woman who was flagging down cars.

The incident, alleged to have taken place on the Glen Road, West Belfast, around 9.45pm on Sunday, was reported to the PSNI on Monday.

Officers were informed that when the man stopped to offer assistance he was assaulted by two males who then fled the scene with a third male.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A report was made to police on Monday evening that a man had been driving on the Glen Road the previous evening, at around 9.45pm, when he stopped to give assistance to a woman who was flagging down cars at the side of the road.

"After getting out of the car he reported that he was assaulted by two males who then left the scene accompanied by a third male. The driver sustained cuts and bruising as a result.

"Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact officers at Woodbourne on 101 quoting reference number 1404 25/01/21. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
