Police probing new allegation of drink spiking in Stirling

Police are investigating claims that another person had their drink spiked in Stirling city centre this week.

It is the third alleged spiking incident being probed by officers in the city centre this month.

Police Scotland confirmed that it has received a report of the possible drink spiking at the un-named city centre premises on Tuesday.

A spokesperson said: “We have received a report of a drink possibly being spiked at a premises in Stirling on Tuesday, October 26.

“Enquiries are at an early stage and ongoing.”

The Stirling Observer told how police were notified of a potential incident after a woman was said to have had her drink spiked at the city’s Tingle bar, in King Street, on Saturday, October 16.

It was later revealed that officers were also investigating a second claim at an un-named venue.

Following the incident at Tingle on October 16, bosses from the popular watering hole took to Instagram to respond. They said that they “are aware of recent media reports of spiking incidents in bars and clubs around Scotland”.

They added: “In a situation like this we would always encourage you to contact the relevant authorities if you have any concerns. Contrary to recent social media discussions, we have not received any official complaints of this nature.

“We stand ready and willing to help in any way we can.”

They later vowed to ramp up searches and refuse entry to lone customers following rising fears about drinks being spiked.
