Police probing horror screwdriver stabbing on Liverpool bus release CCTV appeal

Detectives probing a screwdriver attack that left a man fighting for his life have released images of a man they believe could have "vital information" over the incident.

Officers investigating the assault - which took place on a bus in Queen Square in Liverpool city centre - are asking anyone who recognises the man to contact them as they attempt to piece together what happened.

The victim of the attack is now said to be in a stable condition, having initially been in a battle for survival.

Emergency services were called to Queen Square bus station at around 11.10am on Tuesday following a report a man had been assaulted on the 10B service to Huyton.

The victim suffered puncture wounds to his back and remains in hospital as his recovery continues.

CCTV and witness enquiries have been carried out and any witnesses are urged to come forward to speak to detectives.

An appeal released today said the man in the images may have "vital information" that could help the investigation, with Detective Inspector Paul Nilsen adding: "We believe the man pictured could have information that would assist our enquiries into this shocking incident.

“If you recognise the man pictured and know where he might be, I urge you to contact police so that we can speak to him.”

Det Insp Nilsen added: “This was a busy time of day , with lots of people coming and going into town at the bus station.

“It would have been shocking to witness for other passengers on the bus, and we appeal to anyone passing who may have seen anything which in hindsight seemed suspicious to contact police.

"We will pursue anyone who recklessly carries or uses weapons on our streets. In this case the victim is recovering in hospital, thanks in large part to the expertise of medical professionals.
