Police probe OAP's death

Forensics officers were combing a property in a quiet neighbourhood after a pensioner was found dead in her home.

The body of the 83-year-old woman was discovered on Thursday morning, prompting officers to cordon off the house in the small cul-de-sac in MacDuff, Erskine.

Following the grim find at around 9.30am, there was significant police presence in the area.

Neighbours spoke of their shock at the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

A post-mortem will be carried out to establish the exact cause of her death.

The woman, who is believed to have lived alone, is also said to have been an active member of St John Bosco Church, in Barwood Road.

Officers remained at the scene yesterday and the property was still cordoned off with blue tarpaulin covering the front door.

A forensics team scoured the back garden removing boxes from the house as uniformed officers stood guard, while CID spoke to residents in the surrounding homes.

Neighbours reported a heavy police presence following the discovery.

One said: “It was really shocking to see all the police cars outside.

“I saw forensics officers come out of the house with lots of boxes and load them into their vans.

“There has been police vans coming and going since it happened.

“It’s really quiet here, so it’s a shame to see it all cordoned off and have so many police walking about the estate.”

Another resident added: “The police aren’t telling us anything at all.

“They came to ask us if we had seen anything, but we don’t have a clue what has happened.

“It’s all a bit strange as they are still there and there has been a lot of officers going in and out.”

A neighbour, who knew the elderly lady, added: “I have known her through church for a number of years and I was really sad to see all of the cordons when I passed yesterday.

“She had lived in that house for a long time.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “At 9.55am on Thursday, July 4 an 83-year-old woman was found dead within a property on Macduff.

“A post-mortem will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.”

“Her death is being treated as unexplained.”
