Police probe mysterious early morning vehicle fires in Ayrshire village

Police are probing mysterious vehicle fires that sparked an emergency response in an Ayrshire village yesterday.

Scottish Fire and Rescue and cops were alerted to the inferno at 3.10am on Friday on Barbieston Terrace, Dalrymple.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze and no one was injured.

But a Vauxhall Vivaro van and a Volkswagen Up car - have been significantly damaged.

The fire is currently being treated as unexplained and officers are working with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause.

Detective Sergeant Scott Hendry, of Kilmarnock Police Station, said: "We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the fire or who may have any information to come forward.

"In particular we would be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or private CCTV from the area in the early hours of this morning.

"We are aware of previous vehicle fires in Dalrymple in February and January of this year.

"This fire overnight is being treated as unexplained at this early stage and officers will keep an open mind as to any links as our investigation is carried out.

"Additional patrols will be carried out in the area while these enquiries continue."

Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 0240 of 9 April, 2021 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
