Police probe launched after thief manages to steal train keys from Scots station

A man stole a set of train keys before fleeing from a Scots railway station.

The bizarre incident took place on board a train at Eskbank station, on the Borders railway line between Dalkeith and Bonnyrigg, just after 7am on Saturday morning.

It is not yet known exactly how the man managed to take the keys.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Eskbank at 7.12am on 2 October following reports that a man had stolen some train keys before leaving the station.

“There have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing.”

A description of the suspect has not been released at this time.

A tweet by ScotRail at 7.30am on Saturday morning read: "Due to a passenger causing a disturbance earlier today at Eskbank, services running through this station may be delayed or revised.”

Rail services were initially impacted by the disturbance on Saturday but returned to normal about an hour later.
