Police probe launched after shots fired at house in Newtownards

Police are appealing for witnesses after shots were fired at a property in Newtownards on Monday.

The PSNI say the incident in the Canberra Gardens area caused damage to the front door of the first floor property.

There have been no reports of any injuries, police say.

A neighbour of the resident whose home was shot at, said: "He seems like a quiet man, walks his dogs and doesn't disturb anyone or cause any bother. He's friendly but quiet. We've been very shocked anyone would do this to him or his home.

"His two dogs escaped from his flat after the shots were fired and another neighbour found them and brought them back to him. He lives for those pets."

A police spokesperson said: "Detectives would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 2356 14/09/20.

"You can also submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via  http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/  or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at  http://crimestoppers-uk.org/."
