Police probe launched after man is found with serious head injury on south side street

Police are searching for answers after a man was found with a serious head injury near a south side restaurant.

The 43-year-old man was discovered injured on Grange Road, near the Battlefield Rest, around 12.55am on Thursday.

He was rushed to hospital and an investigation is now underway to determine how he came to be injured.

Enquiries carried out so far have established that several members of the public came to the man’s aid and officers are keen to speak to those members of the public as they may have information which could assist the ongoing enquiry.

Detectives are also checking CCTV footage from in and around the area for any additional information.

Detective Constable Jamie Whitton said: “It’s vital we establish fully what has happened. We are conducting enquires to ascertain how this man has come about his injuries.

"I am asking people who were there at the time to contact us, any small piece of information could help us establish what happened. I would also ask motorists with dashcams to check their footage, it’s possible they could have captured something which could prove relevant to our enquiries.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0235 of 19 May, 2022. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers and give your information anonymously, just call 0800 555 111."
