Police probe launched after baby deer is mauled to death by dog in Falkirk

A major police probe has started after a baby deer was mauled to death by a dog in Falkirk over the weekend.

It's believed to have happened in a local dog walking area of Carron on Sunday, June 6.

A member of the public alerted cops and the SSPCA that the animal was laying on a footpath having suffered severe injuries to its neck and rump.

Officers are now on the hunt for the dog and its owner and are asking anyone with information to contact them on 101.

Constable Laura Robertson, Wildlife Crime Liaison Officer for Forth Valley, said: "On Sunday, 6 June, we received a report that a deer had been killed in the local dog walking area of Carron.

"The deer was found on a public footpath with severe injuries to its neck and rump.

"The SSPCA attended and seized the carcass. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 0925 of 6 June.

"Police Scotland, the Scottish SPCA and Falkirk Rangers are working with the local community, educating local dog walkers to make sure they know where their dogs are at all times and are kept under control.

"Please keep your dog on a lead if walking near wild animals or livestock and do not allow your dog to chase them."
