Police probe 'homophobic' assault in Camberwell which left victim hospitalised

Police are probing an alleged homophobic attack in south-east London which left the victim in hospital.

Officers were called to Denmark Hill, Camberwell, just after 3am on Sunday.

A man in his 20s had suffered head injuries and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

A man, aged 19, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has since been released under investigation.

The Met said in a statement: “The incident is being investigated as a homophobic assault following comments made prior to the assault.”

The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing, the force said.
