Police rushed to a street in Hamilton last night (Thursday, October 31) after a 29-year-old man was seriously assaulted.
Officers were called to Strathaven Road around 8.10pm after the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service found an injured man on the street as they made their way back from another call.
The man appeared to have an injury to his head and was given first aid treatment at the scene .
He was then later taken to the University Hospital Wishaw for further medical assistance.
Police are treating this as a serious assault and are urging anyone with any information to come forward.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers in Hamilton are investigating the report of a serious assault in which a 29-year-old man received head injuries on Thursday, October 31, 2019.
“Around 8.10pm a Fire and Rescue Service crew returning from a call came across the man in Strathaven Road in Hamilton, and rendered assistance and first aid. Officers attended and inquiries are at an early stage.
“The man was taken to the University Hospital Wishaw by ambulance where he received treatment for head injuries.
“Anyone who can help in this inquiry into what is being treated as a serious assault on the man is asked to call us on the 101 number and quote the reference 3855 31/10.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Upon returning from a separate call, firefighters were alerted at 7.55pm on Thursday, October 31 to a man who had suffered serious injuries at Strathaven Road, Hamilton.
“Crews administered oxygen therapy and first aid at the scene, before the casualty was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and transported to hospital.
“Firefighters left the scene at 9.03pm.”
