Police probe fire at Sandylands holiday park after caravan goes up in flames

Emergency services rushed to an Ayrshire holiday park after a caravan went up in flames.

Police and fire crews were spotted at the scene after 999 calls were made by the public.

Footage of the incident, which occurred around 7pm at Sandylands Caravan Park in Saltcoats shows thick black smoke billowing from the holiday home.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We received a call at 19:04 via 999 call.

“Three resources were in attendance.

“The fire was extinguished and crews are no longer there.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were in attendance with Scottish Fire and Rescue Services.

"Officers are still at the scene and enquiries into the incident are ongoing."

A spokesperson for Sandylands Holiday Park said: “There was a suspected arson attack on an unused caravan last night. We’re proud of our team on park, who responded quickly, ensuring that nobody was hurt, and helping the police to apprehend the suspect. We’re thankful to the fire service for their swift response in tackling the fire, and can reassure owners and holidaymakers that it’s business as usual again at the park this morning.”
