Police have launched an investigation into an early morning sexual assault in Fife .
The attack is reported to have taken place near Dunfermline Abbey in the Kirkgate area around 3am this morning, Sunday December 29.
Police sealed off an area near to the historic site and the Old Inn pub as investigations continue.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Police in Fife are investigating following a report of a sexual assault in the Kirkgate area of Dunfermline.
"The incident is reported to have happened at around 3am on Sunday.
"Enquiries which are at an early stage are ongoing."
