Police probe deaths of three residents at coronavirus stricken care home on Isle of Skye

Police have launched an investigation into deaths at a care home where 10 elderly residents have been killed by coronavirus.

The Crown Office
and Police Scotland confirmed they are probing the deaths of three women, aged 84, 86 and 88, at Home Farm Care Home on Skye.

Tests showed 30 residents
and 29 of its staff were infected.

Home Farm’s owner HC-One operates about 300 UK care homes and has been involved in a civil battle with the Care Inspectorate, which sought cancellation of its licence due to alleged negligence.

A decision on its registration will be taken by a sheriff in Inverness next month.

A spokesman for HC-One said: “We recognised that improvements were needed at Home Farm and apologise to our residents, their families, and the local community.”

Police also confirmed they are investigating non Covid-19-related complaints about Springvale Care Home in Lennoxtown near Glasgow.
