Police probe death of 'Kenny' who died at tyre garage

Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched a joint investigation into the death of a man at a Bootle tyre garage.

The emergency services were called out to JJ Tyres & Recovery on Lodwick Street at around 4pm on July 16 following reports of an accident.

It was later confirmed a man in his 50s died after sustaining injuries.

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) confirmed they were now working with Merseyside Police on a joint investigation into the 'incident.'

The owner of JJ Tyres has declined to comment when approached by the ECHO. The business, just off Derby Road, sells tyres and carries out mechanical repairs.

At the time there were unconfirmed reports the man died after an accident involving a lorry.

Police have not confirmed the identity of the man, but he has been named on social media as "Kenny".

Friends of the man have paid loving tributes to him.

Joseph John Nixon wrote: "RIP Kenny, a good friend for over 30 years.

"Our hearts go out to his family."

Warren Carney said: "RIP Kenny, what a lovely man and also a friend. Thinking of all the family at this sad moment."

Julie Utley also wrote: "So heartbreaking. RIP mad Ken. Your crazy tales will be missed. My thoughts are with your family and friends."

Neil Bretherton added: "So sad, he was a nice fella and a good grafter."

And Karl Owens wrote: "RIP Kenny, what a nice man."

A HSE spokesperson said: “HSE is assisting Merseyside Police with a joint investigation into the incident at JJ Tyres & Recovery.”

A police spokesman confirmed there was now a 'joint investigation with the HSE.'
