Police probe crash which claimed life of British Superbike rider Ben Godfrey

A police investigation has been launched after a crash at Donington Park which claimed the life of British Superbike rider Ben Godfrey.

Leicestershire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is examining the circumstances of the collision in which Mr Godfrey died on Sunday, June 21.

The crash left the 31-year-old rider of the other bike in hospital with serious injuries, reports Leicestershire Live.

Ben died after falling from his bike in the collision at about 10.30am in an event organised by No Limits Trackday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hundreds of fans have since gone online to pay tribute the star rider.

No Limits Trackday posted a message online about Ben’s death.

The post said: “During the second advanced group session of our No Limits Trackday today at Donington Park, Ben Godfrey, 25, collided with another bike on the approach to Redgate and fell from his machine.

“Tragically he suffered serious injuries and despite immediate medical assistance trackside, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.”

Mark Neate, No Limits Trackdays director, said Ben was a ‘fantastic young man’.

Police said the surviving rider was in a serious but stable condition at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

A Leicestershire Police  spokeswoman said: “The rider is in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.

“Enquiries are being carried out on behalf of the coroner.”

LeicestershireLive has contacted No Limits TrackDay for a further comment.

We have also tried to contact MotorSport Vision, who own and operate Donington Park, for a comment about the incident.
