Police probe complaint over their handling of Dominic Cummings lockdown 'sighting'

Police are investigating a complaint about their handling of an alleged sighting of Dominic Cummings in the North East during lockdown.

David and Clare Edwards were “100 per cent certain” they spotted the PM’s chief aide during an alleged second rule-flouting visit.

After a joint Mirror/Guardian probe, Mr Cummings admitted driving up on March 27 to self-isolate at his parents’ home outside Durham.

But the Edwardses, both 59 and from Durham, reported seeing him in nearby Houghall Woods on April 19.

Durham Constabulary said there was “insufficient evidence” and the couple contacted the Independent Office of Police Complaints to challenge whether their claim was taken seriously.

The force is now probing.

Mr Cummings says claims of a second lockdown trip are “false”.

A No10 spokesman said: “[Durham Police] have made clear they are not taking action.”
