A man has been left seriously injured in hospital after an attempted robbery which took place in the early hours of this morning.

The incident took place in Ayr's Glenmuir Place between 12.30am and 12.45am.

The victim, a 48-year-old man, was approached by two men, who demanded money before assaulting him and running from the area.

He was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The two suspects are described as being between 18 and 20 years old, skinny build and both wearing all black sportswear.

Detective Constable Barry Gibson, from Ayr CID, said: “We’re appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or believes they saw the men in question during the night, to please come forward.

“If you have any information which could assist our enquiries, please call police on 101, quoting incident 0166 of 19 September.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
