Police are investigating following an attempted hijacking in South Belfast on Thursday.
The PSNI said the incident occurred on the Lisburn Road opposite a pharmacy in the area.
Detective Sergeant Hollie McCartan said: "It was reported that a male driver had returned to his black BMW car which was parked opposite a pharmacy in the area.
"As he got into the car, an unknown male approached the vehicle and gained entry to the passenger side of the car."
He added: "The male, who was wearing a balaclava shouted at the driver, who then exited the car and called for help.
“A male driver of a van in the area then got out of his vehicle and removed the man from the car.
"The male, who was removed from the vehicle then stated he was armed with a knife.
"At that stage, the man got free and made off towards the Capstone Road area on foot. There were no reports of any injuries during the incident.
“He is described as being aged in his early 30s, 5”8 in height, slim build and wearing grey coloured combat trousers, a balaclava and blue gloves.
“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage available to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 459 04/06/20."
