Police probe Ashington Facebook clip showing schoolgirl 'beaten by a bully'

Police are investigating a video clip showing a teenage girl being attacked by a 'bully'.

Footage posted on Facebook showed a schoolgirl punching and kneeing the victim as a group, including several boys, watched on.

Facebook has since deleted the clip, shot at the skate park near Ashington , while Northumbria Police has launched a probe.

A force spokesperson said: "On Monday August 5, police received a report that a teenage girl had been assaulted by another schoolgirl in the park near Oakville, North Seaton.

“The victim suffered cuts and bruises as a result of the incident. Enquiries are ongoing and officers have spoken to the victim and her family.

“Although a full investigation needs to be carried out, this type of incident does cause us concern and those involved need to be aware that bullying is a criminal offence and the police will get involved.

“Anyone who is the victim of this type of offending should not suffer in silence, please tell an adult or a teacher and you will receive support.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
