Human remains found by walker on beach at exclusive seaside resort prompt police probe

A police investigation is underway following the discovery of human remains on a beach close to a historical burial site at an exclusive seaside resort.

A stunned walker found the decayed skeleton at West Wittering in West Sussex on Monday and reported the discovery to Sussex Police.

The force later confirmed the remains are human and they had launched an investigation.

A spokesperson added the skeleton was found close to "an area where historical burial sites are located".

However it is unclear how the bones were unearthed.
