Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. A woman who lives nearby said she called the ambulance this morning after spotting the man with a 'really nasty cut' to his temple.
She said the man - who she believed was aged in his 40s or 50s - was 'conscious but incoherent'. She told the M.E.N: "It looked like he’d been whacked really hard.
"He wasn’t in a good way. I waited with him until the ambulance came."

This afternoon, a footpath leading into the park from West High Street was taped off. Multiple police vehicles were pictured on the scene.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers attended Clarendon Park in Salford at around 11:10am today (14 February 2023) over concerns for the welfare of a man. He has now been taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition."
