Police probe after Jackie Weaver told she should be 'kept in burning building'

A police probe has been launched after a troll sent a vile message to Jackie Weaver telling her she "doesn't deserve to be let out of a burning building".

The council officer, 63, became a star after a video of her acting as clerk in a Handforth Parish Council meeting went viral earlier this month.

Ms Weaver was famously told she had "no authority" by chairman Brian Tolver as she kicked out unruly councillors - delighting most of the internet.

But it has now emerged that some were angered by her actions, with Cheshire Police investigating reports of a "malicious communication".

Ms Weaver received an email telling her that she "doesn't deserve to be let out of a burning building" the day after clips of the meeting were published online.

The nasty message, seen by the Mirror, also called her a "disgrace" and accused her of being a "fully fledged c***".

Although Ms Weaver was unconcerned by the threat, colleagues who were copied into the email forwarded it to the police - who are taking the matter seriously.

A force spokesperson said: "A report of malicious communication is currently being investigated by Cheshire Police. Enquiries are continuing."

Ms Weaver said: "I definitely didn't take it as a death threat. But they copied my colleagues in and, without referring it to me, my colleague referred it to the police.

"Don't get me wrong - I wasn't unhappy with what they did. But I wouldn't have done it that way. I don't think they would have done anything."

Ms Weaver, from Shropshire, previously spoke on 'Good Morning Britain' about the abuse she had received, shocking host Susanna Reid, 50.

And the mum - who is now verified on Twitter - has told the Mirror she was sent several hurtful messages after becoming a celebrity overnight.

She said: "I found that, initially, every email that came in I read word for word. Some were extremely unpleasant and I took them to heart. It got me thinking: 'I'm doing the wrong thing'."

Ms Weaver shot to fame as the no-nonsense clerk who dealt with disruptive councillors in a parish council meeting held late last year.

Footage of the meeting went viral on February 4, being watched millions of times across social media and YouTube.

Famous names including radio DJ Greg James and former Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne even posted about the clip as it was shared.

Handforth Parish Council then met again last week without Ms Weaver - and once again descended into chaos.

Members of the public joined the call and shouted phrases from the first meeting throughout, disrupting proceedings.

News of the police investigation into the messages sent to Ms Weaver comes just days after a man appeared in court accused of sending a "grossly offensive" tweet about Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Joseph Kelly, 35, denied posting online about the fundraising hero on the day after his death on February 2.
