Police probe after Christmas presents stolen during West Belfast robbery

Police have made an appeal after Christmas presents were stolen from a family home in Belfast.

The Lincoln Square property was entered via the back door some time between 2am and 10am on Sunday.

Items including a smart phone and a tablet were taken.

SDLP representative Paul Doherty told Belfast Live: "These criminals don't rest over Christmas, in fact, we are seeing burglaries increase over this period which is shocking.

"These criminals have absolutely no regard for people who may be struggling to provide for their families during this time of year. Acts like this can cause serious hardship for victims of these crimes. It is heartbreaking that people have to go through this ordeal.

"I would encourage everyone to report any suspicious activity to the police, no matter how insignificant it may seem and to look out for neighbours. Highlighting on social media is helpful, but reporting people or vehicles acting suspiciously in your area can help police prevent these type of crimes.

"Anyone who is offered similar items for sale should also contact police."

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A number of items including a smart phone and a tablet, which are understood to have been Christmas presents, were taken. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about this crime to get in touch by calling 101, quoting reference 761 15/12/19."
