Police have confirmed that the body of a man has been found by the River Leen after a heavy presence was spotted in Nottingham.

At 1.25pm on Saturday, September 25 police were called by a member of the public who had found the body of a man by the River Leen, near Main Street in Bulwell.

Nottinghamshire Police have said they are working hard to establish the circumstances around the man’s death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

He has not yet been formally identified.

Detective Inspector Mark Shaw, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers responded to reports of this tragic sudden death.

“We are treating the man’s death as unexplained and are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of the River Leen in Bulwell around 7.30pm on Friday, 24 September to get in touch.

“Anyone with information should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 419 of 25 September 2021.”

Residents shortly after 1pm reported a heavy police presence in the car park of Wilko in Bulwell, including what locals claimed were police divers later on in the day.

And the area has been cordoned off, with eyewitnesses saying that Wilko looked like it had been closed after the body was found.

Photos show that the fire service had also attended the scene.
