Police have hailed the brave victim of a twisted Scots sex beast who tried to rape a vulnerable woman just days after being released from prison.
Revolting William Belk was caged for life at the High Court in Edinburgh after carrying out a horrific sexual assault on a 47-year-old who has learning difficulties.
The 53-year-old was ordered to serve a minimum of three-and-a-half years behind bars but will have to persuade authorities that he is no longer a threat before being released.
The vile predator attacked the woman at a house in Edinburgh on June 9 this year as she bravely tried to fight him off.
Police have now hailed her bravery in reporting Belk who was already a registered sex offender having previously been jailed for 15 years.
Detective Inspector Jonny Wright from Edinburgh's Public Protection Unit said: "We welcome the sentencing of William Belk, who has been given an order for lifelong restriction due to the risk he poses to the public.
"Belk is a dangerous individual who took advantage of a vulnerable woman and the trust she placed in him.
"I wish to commend her bravery and the strength she showed in providing her account of the incident to officers, which significantly contributed to Belk's conviction and subsequent sentence.
"We will continue to support victims of sexual crime and take action against those who commit these serious offences.
“Anyone wishing to report sexual crime can do so by calling Police Scotland on 101, or 999 in an emergency."
