Police praise teenagers' 'presence of mind' after they spot missing woman on Cavehill

Youths who spotted a missing woman making her way to Napolean's nose on Cavehill this evening have been commended by police for their "presence of mind".

Police were searching for the vulnerable 55-year-old last seen in Dundonald following a missing person's appeal and were concerned for her safety.

But after a call to his dad for advice, a 14-year-old boy and his pal, were able to bring her back down the mountain where police were waiting.

A PSNI North Belfast spokesman said: "We want to say a massive thank you to the 14-year-old boy and his friend who were up on Cavehill earlier. Whilst up there, they saw a female who was making her way to Napoleon's nose.... they knew that something wasn't quite right... they knew she needed help.

"The 14-year-old boy had the presence of mind to call his dad and ask for advice... the advice was quite rightly to phone police.

"As it happens, at that time, we were looking for this female and were concerned for her safety - she had been reported as missing.

"This young man was able to give his location to police and to bring this vulnerable female back down the hill where he met police officers from Tennent Street.

"She is now safe," they added.

"These young people and their parents should be so very proud of their actions today - a massive well done from us!

"Be proud lads - amazing job!"
