Police praise public after tip-off leads to Shirehampton drugs raid

A man will be questioned by police after they received a tip off he was growing cannabis at his Bristol home - and raided it.

Police said they discovered 'what is believed to be cannabis' at the address in St Bernard's Road, Shirehampton.

A load of special equipment and 'drug paraphernalia', were also discovered and seized by officers.

The man, in his 20s, who has not been named by police, will now have to attend a police station at a later date for questioning on his horticultural hobby.

Police said the information about the man came from the public - and praised people for telling them about it.

"Neighbourhood officers attended the property on St Bernard's Road after information was received from the public the Class B drug was being grown there," said a police spokesperson.

"A quantity of suspected cannabis, drug paraphernalia and specialist equipment were subsequently seized and the man will now have to attend a police station for questioning," he added.

Local Shirehampton Sergeant Richard Jones said: “It’s thanks to the information provided to us by the public we were able to take the action we did and I hope this reassures people we will always listen to you."

“Please keep coming to us with information, it really does make a difference,” he added.

"If you have any suspicions over drug dealing taking place in your community, please call us on 101, or you can give the information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org."
