Police plea to parents as video of children 'playing with butterfly knife in street' is spread on social media

A video of children ‘recklessly playing with a knife’ in Wigan has surfaced on social media.

The footage allegedly shows two young men walking around the Vauxhall Road area of Scholes with a butterfly knife.

Police are asking the parents of the children seen in the video to contact officers ‘as soon as possible’.

Patrols are also set to increase across Scholes following a rise in anti-social behaviour.

A spokesman for GMP Wigan West said: “Scholes neighbourhood team are now aware of a recent Facebook video circulating which show two young males holding and recklessly playing with what is reported to be a butterfly knife, walking around the Vauxhall Road area.

“Enquiries to establish the identity of these two individuals are taking place but in the meantime we are sure that the word is out and would ask the parents of those two children to speak to us as soon as possible - wiganwest@gmp.police.uk.

“We understand children are often foolish and we seek to educate them about the dangers of knife crime and the impact they have on lives.

“We are also aware of a number of reports of anti-social behaviour throughout Scholes, on Vauxhall Road and around Cambridge Way and we will, as always be patrolling those areas as much as possible.”
