Police plea over social media videos after 'hit and run driver' leaves man with broken leg

A man was left in hospital with a broken leg and head injuries after a collision in Bolton.

Police were called to the scene in Higher Swan Lane at around 9pm on Saturday night, after reports of a collision involving a grey Nissan Micra and the pedestrian.

A 20-year-old man was rushed to hospital after the collision and remains there for treatment.

But the driver of the offending vehicle fled the scene.

The car was later found abandoned and burnt out in Blackshaw Lane.

The registration of the vehicle is believed to have been DY03 AXP, says Greater Manchester Police.

Higher Swan Lane was closed to the public for several hours while police conducted their investigations.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Officers have asked videos circulating on social media to be submitted to them to help with the enquiries.

Constable Alan Wainwright of GMP’s Roads Policing Unit said: “If you were on or around Higher Swan Lane, Bolton, at the time of the incident and saw anything that could help us establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision, please contact police.

“Any dash cam footage or CCTV could also prove invaluable to our enquiries.

“We are aware there may be a video circulating online of the moments prior to the collision.

“We’d ask that people do not share this video, but instead submit it to police for our investigations.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 6108 quoting incident 2276 of 18/04/20 or email 03938@gmp.police.uk.

Information can also be passed to the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 .
