Police pelted with objects as man seen with knife in street

Police cars came under attack after being sent to a street where a man had been seen with a knife.

Officers were called to the scene on Sapphire Drive in Kirkby this morning following reports of a domestic disturbance.

On arrival at the address at around 8.10am, they found a man standing in the street armed with a knife.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO: "When officers arrived at the scene a male was seen in the street armed with a knife and items were thrown towards police vehicles."

Police confirmed nobody was injured during the incident.

A 39-year-old man was subsequently detained at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage, affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is currently in custody where he will be questioned by officers.

In a video sent to the ECHO earlier today, officers armed with guns were spotted surrounding a property and a high police presence was reported.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
