Police patrol Edinburgh primary school to catch out dangerous drivers

Edinburgh police have been patrolling the Marchmont area of the capital in order to catch out dangerous parking near James Gillespie's Primary School.

In a tweet shared on the Edinburgh Police Twitter account, they stated: "Your community officers were at James Gillespie’s Primary School @weeunicorns making sure children got to school safely.

"Please help us by considering where is an appropriate place to park and walk the extra distance to keep our children safe. #SaferSouth."

Another Twitter user replied to this tweet, saying: "Maybe police the speed limits on Grange Road if you’re concerned about JG pupils getting to school safely.

"Supposedly a 20mph zone, but most at 30mph plus…"

The parking around the primary school has been reported to have been endangering the public, including those youngsters trying to make their way to school.

So, the authorities have been present over the last few days to hopefully find a solution to this problem, in order to prevent any incidents occurring involving the children who attend the school.

One concerned parent said: "The parking around the school can be really dangerous. The Spaces for People measures have helped massively, as it means that kids can cross over to Brunstfield Links without worrying about speeding cars.

"But people are still double parking and doing dangerous U-turns outside the main entrance, which is a worry, especially for the younger pupils."
