Police partially shut down M77 after car bursts into flames

Emergency services have shut part of the M77 due to a car on fire.

Police are currently on the scene of the blaze which unfolded around 6.30pm on Thursday evening close to the Dumbreck junction.

Firefighters are still working to extinguish the fire and the M77 southbound is currently partially blocked between Junction 2 and 1.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Traffic is also moving slowly on the northbound carriageway due to heavy smoke.

Drivers are urged to take extra care.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 6.30pm we recieved a report of a car on fire on the M77 at Junction 1 at Dumbreck.

"There are no casualties reported. Police and fire service are currently on the scene."

Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed that work is still ongoing to extinguish the fire.

Traffic Scotland reported at 8.10pm that the road was partially blocked and that traffic was moving slowly on the opposite side of the carriageway.

Update: The road has now been cleared
