Police on the hunt for Ayrshire firebug

Around 11.10pm on Friday, July 12 a wheelie bin was placed up against the door of a property on Kilmarnock Road and set alight, causing extensive damage.

Emergency services attended and extinguished the fire.

The man and woman within the property were uninjured.

Detective Constable Robert Docherty, Ayr CID, said: “We are treating this fire as wilful.

“Whoever moved this bin and set it alight against the only exit to this property was incredibly reckless and put those within at risk.

“We are still trying to establish the motive for this act and are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch with us.

“The area is near to Dundonald town centre and therefore there may have been people in the area at the time.

“We ask you to think back, do you remember seeing anyone in the area?”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police via 101, quoting incident number 5472 of Friday 12 July 2019.

Alternatively you can contact CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where information can be given in confidence
